The Bamboo Shoots I will start out by saying; I am not all that into bands that MTV likes to play regulary. Slutted out to mainstream. Over played and jading the youth of tthe world with what they believe will define our generations music... yuck. I cant think of an Elvis, Hendrix or Zepplin from the past ten fifteen or so years... mainly cause we have such a vanilla skew of what music should be provided by television... and we have such a melding pot of music these days... in the past fifteen years nothing has really been so stand out, well since nervana defined grunge... I guess. Maybe it takes another fifteen to understand what will be really great about these last fifteen. Any thoughts

Now I have to say I think MTV did something pretty cool. Somwhere in between battle of the sexes and the other mush, they set out to find their favorite college band. Somwhere in Brooklyn/New Jersey.. in some college cafeteria they found the Bamboo Shoots (www.myspace.com/bambooshoots & BambooShoots.com )....

Somehow they ended up on Conan last night and as I was shamelessly myspacing away I heard the tune in the backround... It was killer. Hey Girl - the name of the song had a catchy and different sound... I just dug it... I hope that doesnt reflect as me liking something that MTV likes... But they sounded a bit different. Bamboo SHoots immediately looked them up, and Blammo a modest following of a couple thousand and some 12000 page views... So I shot off a little message saying congrats, and that I liked the music. I was super suprised this morning to recieve a personal message back thanking me and telling me to keep listening from the lead singer Avir. It SO I was kind of cool. They sent out a bulletin telling everyone that they were playing a cafeteria serving Pasta last week... and they played Conan this week, scared as hell they were going to mess up. How cool is that? Since last night they have had some four thousand page views and a number of new friends and comments... so cool.

So in conclusion I would like to applaud MTV for doing something different, and cool, and exposing a nobody. I think they are sick and you should go check out their music asap. Take it easy

I just want to comment on Marks idea of
''our'' generation of music. First of all i agree that MTV is a bad place to look for "new" music. Though i totally disagree with his statement that, "Slutted out to mainstream. Over played and jading the youth of tthe world with what they believe will define our generations music... yuck.". Im sorry if whats "popular" isnt your style of music Mark, but you still need to give credit where credit is due. Eventhough... Timbaland isnt my favorite artist or My Chemical Romance isnt in my top ten. Im still going to respect their amazing music tallents and ability they have for coming up with new and different sounds. Its not MTV's fault that the masses want to hear their music. And since MTV is out to make a buck they will accommodate to the people who ultimately pay the bills. Tell me Mark, if MTV was around when ELVIS was at the peak of his career where would his music be played all the time...? You guessed it MTV. Why? Because people were crazy about him and MTV would want to get a piece of that. I think that there are bands and musicians out there that will proudly difine our incredible generation of music but we wont know it till our time is gone. Our generation will define itself and what music we want to hear. So unfortunatly you're just going to have to deal with the changing times and give credit the those artists who venture out beyond the sounds of Hendrix, Nirvana, and ELVIS... and stop watching MTV watch FUSE they are more into the "underground" music that you like.
