If you are like every other Rockworms Dot Com loyal reader (HI MOM!) you will have noticed that throughout the last few weeks, there has been little-to-no fresh new hip content. The colorful writing and shiny pictures that so famously have haunted this site for almost two years now have suddenly stopped magically appearing.
While your first natural reaction is to call your local emergency service center (well done, kids), please take note that NOTHING is wrong and we still do care an incredible amount about you and music in general.
As a matter of fact, perhaps we care TOO much about music and making RockWorms the best music commentary site on the interweb. In an effort to find out, we are in the midst of launching a BRAND NEW Rockworms.com to coincide with the opening festivities of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games! The Olympics every four years are a spectacle to be held and why can't RockWorms join in on the fun? We are switching formats, layouts, letting a few people go (ooooh...yeah. Sorry Craig...you were going to find out somehow, buddy) and in general, making a more exciting and easier-to-read website for you all.
So sit back and keep hitting refresh Rockwormites! In no time you will be in the fast lane to...music, review land. It's a cool place. Lots of people hang out there. OPEN BAR!!!!!
Spin is reporting this morning that Liz Phair will be giving a track by track live show of her album "Exile in Guyville" which is now 15 years young! Phair will play in NYC on June 25, but shows in San Fran, and Chicago will be announced soon (what--no Minneapolis?).
The potty mouth girl rocker will release a special anniversary album "Guyville" on June 24th with bonus tracks, B-Sides, and most likely some sort of tribute to yours' truly.
If Phair had given a quote, she would have probably said "Rockworms Dope. So soo dope!"
I wonder how many people google "free music" every day? I wonder what small fraction of them will wander here to this humble site?
Coldplay has jumped on the giving stuff away train and decided to release the first single from their "Viva la Viva" (roughly translated: Long Live Rockworms.com), for FREE via there official website starting tomorrow. The track will only be up for a week, then you'll have to pay for *cough-steal-cough* it. The message on their site reads:
"From tuesday, 12:15pm UK time for one week only you can come here to download of a new song called Violet 4:11"
Also, in the spirit of free stuff, they're going to play a free show at Madison Square Garden in NYC on June 23rd. Let's hope we don't have another Gimme Shelter on our hands. Better off just not inviting Hells Angels this time.
First off, they're back...if they ever left at all. Weezer's new single "Pork & Beans" is doing well on the charts. The bands new album is set for release on June 24th, and it will be available digitally on the 24th of this month. It will be their THIRD self-titled album, which shows that you can be a genius at music and still have NO idea what to call the album. My money is that its the "Yellow Album" (see inset press photo)
Velvet Revolver has no front man. Scott Weiland is about as reliable as the weather and after creating a solid fan base , he has gone back to his other ventures...jerk. Well, when life gives VR lemons, they make a website. Yep, thats right, VR is using an internet site where potential new lead singers can submit their stuff. Seems like either someones big chance, or the chance to show that there is only one Scott Weiland.
And lastly, what would music news be without a GNR update?!? First off, claims have been made that Guns N' Roses are 'negotiating' a release date for the new album. More amusing than that is that Robin Finck has left the band to return to Nine Inch Nails and is going to be touring with Nails this summer. The article states that the band was "caught a bit off guard" by his leaving. Hmm, how long would you stick in a band that can't put an album out after a decade of trying, but had the opportunity to be in one....yeah...
First off, I cannot tell you how ecstatic I am about the announcement of The Regeneration Tour. Thats right folks, its a flashback 80's tour starting in Phoenix, AZ. It'll bring us back such entertaining acts as Dead or Alive, Flock of Seagulls, Belinda Carlisle and, wait for it..THE HUMAN LEAGUE!! Seriously, ever since I was at a young age, I feared that I would never get the chance to sing along to "Dont You Want Me Baby" live...fears assuaged.
Prince has been announced as a headliner for Cochella along with Jack Johnson and Roger Waters. Man, after knowing I could see The Human League, maybe hearing "When Dove's Cry" might actually top it.
Charlie Daniels is pissed. Apparently he doesn't own the rights to what is thought of as "his song" "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." He is very mad because it appears in the game Guitar Hero, not only does the game get to use the song for free, but according to his released statement, the Guitar Hero version has the devil winning! Hmm. I'd be more pissed that I don't have the playback royalties. Get over yourself. It's a video game.
First off, a little back and forth. Neil Diamond is back in the studio again, teaming up with famed Beastie Boys/Johnny Cash collaborator Rick Rubin. While I am not the craziest die-hard Diamond fan, I do feel that Rick Rubin's influence on an album is like the Midas touch, so yes, I will probably buy the album. I am frustrated however, that I will have to buy the deluxe edition if I want the cover of Simon and Garfunkels' "The Boxer", which IS one of the best songs ever written.
POD has a new album out. Have not gotten a chance to hear it yet, but guitarist Marcos Curiel is back after a long absence and the band is claiming to have changed from a solid hard rock to an incorporated funk and reggae sound. Hey all you Hard Rockers: lets all jump on the "If Linkin Park can write a ballad hit, we can write a ______song" too!!
RhiannaWON a Juno award at the Canadian awards Show. Another, far less attentive music site headlines it as "Rhianna Wind Juno Award". Check it out.
Lastly, in a new tell all book, it's stated thatLuciano Pavarotti lip-synced (lip-sunk? Lip-sank?) his last living performance which was at the 2006 Summer Olympics. First off, I have a sad news flash for you: so does Aretha Franklin. They all do. And if you believe half the old dudes rocking out there don't MIDI sync some pre-taped lyrics for your show, you're only fooling yourself. Secondly, why you gotta be hatin' on Pavarotti. Let the man Rest In Peace.
Alrighty, in todays news updates, first off Linkin Parkhas announced they have snagged Chris Cornell and The Bravery for the anticipated Projekt Revolution tour. Could be a cool tour, but chances are it ISN'T coming to a city near you....figures.
In other completely irrelevant news, Danity Kane, who had been holding strong at number one on the Billboard charts was knocked off by new group Day26's new single. Kyle's prediction is that in one year, no one cares about either of these artists, and the only way you'll hear their work is if you happen to buy the "Now Thats What I Call Music" box set.
And, in a sign of the coming apocolypse, Mariah Carey has her 18th US number one single, topping Elvis's record. She is now only second to The Beatles in chart-topper hits, who had 21. The thing that really grinds my gears is she states that her sucess feels all that more poignant because of her ethnicity and gender. Yeah, because in todays world, those female pop stars just cant catch a break can they...
Attention to all of our loyal readers (all 7 of you): Due to decreased travel to our site, coupled with a lack of interest in the music world, Rockworms heads have chosen to attempt a format change. We thank you all for your interest in our site, and hope you will continue to travel to it for whatever information it decides to bring in the future. So in the coming weeks, check back, where you may be redirected to our new site, threemiddleclasswhitekidscomplaining.com
Well i'm back from a brief hiatus, and a few hard days work, but have no fear, worthless news is here.
First off, The Smashing Pumpkins are suing Virgin Records? Apparently Virgin is using their image in promotions such as the PepsiStuf promotion. Cited reasons for the lawsuit by the Pumpkins include "threat to our artistic integrity" and, get this, potential damage to the goodwill and public image they have accumulated over the years. What the heck does that mean?
Maroon 5 and the Counting Crows are running an Amphitheater tour this summer, and depending on the show date, you'll get Sara Bareilles or Augustana as your opener. Or, if you live in Minnesota....you'll GET NOTHING....
And finally, we give a final shout out to Neil Aspinall , who passed away. Neil was a boyhood friend of Paul McCartney and George Harrison. He also was a Beatles road manager and former Chief Executive at Apple Corps, who gave us the Beatles Anthology and Beatles One. He was 66
So with all the other music bloggers away this last week at SXSW in Austin, we were going to pretend to be jamming out with the University of Texas students too and therefore, get to take ANOTHER week off. We really were. It was devious.
But alas, we couldn't do that to our loyal reader! So here we are, slaving away on a cool March evening, bringing YOU the news that all those OTHER dudes in Texas seem to be missing. Jackasses.
R.E.M.ripped the sh*t out of South By Southwe...errr, I mean some small festival in Texas. A couple people were there. Not a big deal. Not...at...all. Stipe, Buck, Mills and...whoever was on drums that night (Joey Warnoker?) played one of the most interested, awesome set-lists in recent R.E.M. memory. Must be gearing up for Accelerate (APRIL 1st!!!).
