Neil Diamond, POD, Rhianna, and Pavarotti...yeah, thats right, Pavarotti
Written by Kyle Flaherty

First off, a little back and forth.  Neil Diamond is back in the studio again, teaming up with famed Beastie Boys/Johnny Cash collaborator Rick Rubin.  While I am not the craziest die-hard Diamond fan, I do feel that Rick Rubin's influence on an album is like the Midas touch, so yes, I will probably buy the album.  I am frustrated however, that I will have to buy the deluxe edition if I want the cover of Simon and Garfunkels' "The Boxer", which IS one of the best songs ever written.

POD has a new album out.  Have not gotten a chance to hear it yet, but guitarist Marcos Curiel is back after a long absence and the band is claiming to have changed from a solid hard rock to an incorporated funk and reggae sound.  Hey all you Hard Rockers: lets all jump on the "If Linkin Park can write a ballad hit, we can write a ______song" too!!

Rhianna WON a Juno award at the Canadian awards Show.  Another, far less attentive music site headlines it as "Rhianna Wind Juno Award". Check it out.

Lastly, in a new tell all book, it's stated that Luciano Pavarotti lip-synced (lip-sunk? Lip-sank?) his last living performance which was at the 2006 Summer Olympics.  First off, I have a sad news flash for you:  so does Aretha Franklin. They all do. And if you believe half the old dudes rocking out there don't MIDI sync some pre-taped lyrics for your show, you're only fooling yourself.  Secondly, why you gotta be hatin' on Pavarotti. Let the man Rest In Peace.

Linkin Park, Danity Kane, and Mariah beating out Elvis...I'm dying a little inside
Written by Kyle Flaherty

Alrighty, in todays news updates, first off Linkin Park has announced they have snagged Chris Cornell and The Bravery for the anticipated Projekt Revolution tour.  Could be a cool tour, but chances are it ISN'T coming to a city near you....figures.

In other completely irrelevant news, Danity Kane, who had been holding strong at number one on the Billboard charts was knocked off by new group Day26's new single.  Kyle's prediction is that in one year, no one cares about either of these artists, and the only way you'll hear their work is if you happen to buy the "Now Thats What I Call Music" box set.

And, in a sign of the coming apocolypse, Mariah Carey has her 18th US number one single, topping Elvis's record.  She is now only second to The Beatles in chart-topper hits, who had 21.  The thing that really grinds my gears is she states that her sucess feels all that more poignant because of her ethnicity and gender.  Yeah, because in todays world, those female pop stars just cant catch a break can they...

Smashing Pumpkins, Maroon 5, Counting Crows
Written by Kyle Flaherty

Well i'm back from a brief hiatus, and a few hard days work, but have no fear, worthless news is here.

First off, The Smashing Pumpkins are suing Virgin Records?  Apparently Virgin is using their image in promotions such as the PepsiStuf promotion.  Cited reasons for the lawsuit by the Pumpkins include "threat to our artistic integrity" and, get this, potential damage to the goodwill and public image they have accumulated over the years.  What the heck does that mean?

Maroon 5 and the Counting Crows are running an Amphitheater tour this summer, and depending on the show date, you'll get Sara Bareilles or Augustana as your opener.  Or, if you live in Minnesota....you'll GET NOTHING....

And finally, we give a final shout out to Neil Aspinall , who passed away.  Neil was a boyhood friend of Paul McCartney and George Harrison.  He also was a Beatles road manager and former Chief Executive at Apple Corps, who gave us the Beatles Anthology and Beatles One.  He was 66

SXSW Sure Sounds Cool...
Written by Adam Cozens

So with all the other music bloggers away this last week at SXSW in Austin, we were going to pretend to be jamming out with the University of Texas students too and therefore, get to take ANOTHER week off. We really were. It was devious.

But alas, we couldn't do that to our loyal reader! So here we are, slaving away on a cool March evening, bringing YOU the news that all those OTHER dudes in Texas seem to be missing. Jackasses.

R.E.M. ripped the sh*t out of South By Southwe...errr, I mean some small festival in Texas. A couple people were there. Not a big deal. Not...at...all. Stipe, Buck, Mills and...whoever was on drums that night (Joey Warnoker?) played one of the most interested, awesome set-lists in recent R.E.M. memory. Must be gearing up for Accelerate (APRIL 1st!!!).

Did you hear that Diddy is starting up a celebrity cab service?...

Bjork Hurt China's Feelings
Written by Craig Key

She says, Hey China, Bjork You!Man oh man, I don't know who is more pissed off at Bjork right now, Jackie Chan, or Ziyi Zhang--oh wait, Chan is a native of Hong Kong, which used to be independent of China, and Zhang is a Geisha...aren't they from Japan?  But isn't she Chinese?

ANYWAY...according to AP the "Culture Ministry"  from China said Bjork's outburst "broke Chinese law and hurt Chinese people's feelings," when she yelled out "Tibet" while singing her song "Declare Indpendence."  The comment started a Riot in Shanghai last week, and it's clear that Bjork won't be invited to the forbidden city for  a photo op any time soon.

Check out Bjork's "Declare Independence" music video, and our thuper-thpecial poll below...

Danger Mouse + Beck = Sexyback.
Written by Craig Key

I'll admit it....every once in a while I check that other music blog for news.  And BOY WAS I EXCITED to find this news

Danger Mouse (*ehem*, half of Gnarls Barkley?), will be producing Beck's next album!

(from Pitchfork)

That's right, according to a HARP report (via URB.com) confirmed by Danger Mouse's management, the two weirdos are working together on Beck's follow-up to 2006's The Information.

Beck Odelay Deluxe Edition

On a related note, Beck's Deluxe Edition of "Odelay" is out now. The two disc set features remixes, outtakes, and new tracks, and is an audible treat for any Beck fan.

Scott Weiland, Notorious B.I.G. and of course Kanye
Written by Kyle Flaherty

OK, first off, though not notably interesting, Scott Weiland pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence. These charges come in regards to a Los Angeles freeway pullover.  The fact that he got pulled over wasn't that shocking...the fact that he believes that ANYONE would believe he WASN'T under the influence is! Well, I'd get a new lawyer...he IS Scott Weiland...yeah...and Hendrix was clean...

I know you're as ecstatic as I am: Biggie is coming to the Big Screen. A Brooklyn based rapper, Jamal Woolard has been cast to play Biggie Smalls...I think I speak for everyone in that I will pledge my 10 dollars to see this movie as long as I am guarenteed a good version of "Mo Money, Mo Problems"...

Lastly, check out the Rolling Stone's little article on Kanye West's backstage demands.  If the Connect 4 request doesn't shock you, the Tapioca Pudding should...

News...Just News
Written by Kyle Flaherty

First off, The Black Crowes are putting a nice spin on an album tour.  "Warpaint" will be the bands first album in seven years...and at upcoming shows, they plan on playing it all the way through.  Pretty cool, though I would miss hearing "She Talks To Angels..."

?uestlove and The Roots gang are pumping out their last contracted album with Def Jam records.  How do you make the first single hit with a bang?  Make it a pop tune that almost didn't make the album and just to ice the cake, have Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy sing it.....jeeze...I can hardly wait...

And lastly, to make this all about albums, Sir Paul McCartney and Tom Morello both plan on releasing albums this year despite recent ones in 2007.  To The Nightwatchman, congrats.  To Sir Paul, you better do something to get people to forget you wrote "Nod Your Head"

Bono, TVT and Rehab...
Written by Kyle Flaherty

Well first up in the world of news,  Bono and the gang are back in the studio.   Seems the band is working again with Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois on a undated, upcoming album.  The article states that they are going to "try and break new sonic ground...".  Don't get me wrong, U2 is dandy, but their sound hasn't been sonically different since "Achtung..."...sooooo...we'll see!

What's this?  TVT is going bankrupt?!  For those of you not savy to TVT, they are the guys that brought you early Nine Inch Nails, Lil' Jon, and the Ying Yang Twins.  I, for one, know that I am saddened as this will obviously further delay Lil' Jon's upcoming (obviously multi-platinum potential) album Crunk Rock.

Oh, and for good measure, Amy Winehouse misses BRIT awards rehersal. Why? She found out her inmprisioned husband Blake was using heroin while in the slammer.  Wait, that shocked her? Her abusive, drug-laden lover using hard drugs shocked her?  Thats like a Clay Aiken fan being shocked  that he's gay!
