The Updates that Matter! Here's a little update on two indie bands I've been keeping an eye over the months. VonNelson - From their website and their Myspace page, you would assume that their 3rd EP, which has been long in production, is finished.False. Well, maybe? Who knows, as it seems they have an album design finished and all of their songs finalized, but they have nothing oniTunes or CD Baby or any sort of news on either their site or Myspace as to whether they're ever going to release this EP. Hopefully they'll bother to release this EP soon. In the meantime, enjoy their new songs on Myspace and their website. http://www.myspace.com/vonnelsonmusic http://www.vonnelson.com BennyStrange - Gaining a firm fanbase within OurStage.com, he's come out within or on the top of their monthly top 10 list of alternative (and pop as well) artists consecutively. His most popular song is still"Nowhere Left to Run" from last year's EP. But now, after much hardwork, he's released his latest EP, "When Continents Collide", on iTunes. You can also hear 2 of the songs on his Myspace. In my opinion, this EP looks to top even his last. Showing more of his musical genius then ever, Benny Strange creates even broader and more beautiful soundscapes then before. "Sifting" is well worth a listen and clearlyshows off his musical prowess as a solo artist. Keep an eye on this guy, he has potential for quite a big future. http://www.myspace.com/bennystrange Be first to comment this article |

Oh Irony... A Los Angeles County coroner has announced the cause of death for UGK rapper Pimp C. The rapper who along with partner Bun B and Three Six Mafia recorded the seminal high school dance anthem and ode to sneaky underage intoxication, "Sippin' on Sizzurp" died in his sleep from, of all things, sippin' on sizzurp.
"Rap artist Pimp C, an influential hip-hop figure who had recorded an ode to getting high from cough medicine, died accidentally at a Sunset Strip hotel because of the combination of a medical condition and cough syrup, the Los Angeles County coroner said Monday.
The 33-year-old Pimp C, whose real name was Chad Butler, was found lying on his bed at the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood on Dec. 4 after he failed to check out as expected. The coroner's report said the death was "due to promethazine/codeine effects and other unestablished factors." - Richard Winton, LAtimes.com Pimp C, Christian name of Chad Butler, died December 4th in a Los Angeles Hotel. He is survived by a wife, children and countless bitches. Comments (52) |

My cousin, who runs the popular website Reuters, has employed his peeps to come out with a report destined to SHOCK THE WORLD: "U.S. popular music is awash with lyrics about drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Medical researchers have reviewed the words of the 279 top songs of 2005 to estimate just how common they are. Their report on Monday showed a third of the songs had explicit references to substance abuse. And two-thirds of these references placed drugs, alcohol and tobacco in a positive light by associating them with sex, partying and humor, according to the team led by Dr. Brian Primack of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. They calculated that with Americans aged 15 to 18 listening to 2.4 hours of music daily, they hear 84 musical references to substance use a day and more than 30,000 a year." Frankly, I am shocked. I mean...drug AND alcohol reference in my music? When DID this start? iThe outrage goes on... "While we have not had the opportunity to thoroughly assess the study, it's important to note that music is generally a reflection of society," said Jonathan Lamy, a spokesman for the Recording Industry Association of America, the trade group for the U.S. recording business." Oh, so now I AM a pothead? Because I listen to pot-headish music? Honestly, I feel that much like this blog posting, this article was written merely to kill time and fill space. Nothing was gained from reading this except for maybe getting some concrete numbers to support future agurments for parents against their angst-ridden teens. You can read the rest of this titilating report here. Be first to comment this article |

Fresh off our posting of his picture below, His Royale' Puffness sent a decree out to all the land in response to what he must have taken as "mockery" from our end. We beefin' holmes?
Mad props for standing in front of an old picture of himself, so at least I could tell who was yelling at me. Keep rockin' the Proactive. Comments (34) |
