I'm trying my hardest to find some example from history, that can help me understand and explain what's happening now in the music industry...Searching my 10th grade memory banks brings the words "Feudal System" to mind. One quick trip to wikipedia and I'm off with an analogy!
Feudal society is a sometimes-debated term used to describe the social order, characterized by the legal subjection of a large part of the peasantry to a hereditary landholding elite exercising administrative and judicial power on the basis of reciprocal private undertakings.
Right...whatever that means, I'm sticking to Mr. Nelson's definition who taught us this in World Histroy class: There were few people who controlled all the land, and all the power...and eventually the rest of the people got fed up and said "Screw this!" (paraphrased)
Oh record labels, it saddens me that we are at this point. You did so many great things, where would we be if it weren't for Capitol? RCA? Atlantic? When these companies were the pioneers in the music business, the civilized world was ripe with new sounds, and vinyl for all. But there came a point, and I really can't say when that was, where you stopped being pioneers...and started being--shit, I suck at adjectives--lame.

From the "I could have sworn that she was dead" file, late 90's pop middle-star PINK has filed for divorce from dirtbiking dingleberry, hubby Carey Hart.
The singer, who derived her name from the one-time color of her hair and self-described "tri-sexual" (I don't want to guess what the THIRD option is), is probably best known for a string of hits in the late 1990's that when listened to now, almost make you cringe with embarrassment.
Despite success with Jetta-bumping anthems like "Get This Party Started", "You Make Me Sick" and "Most Girls", PINK should probably best be credited for her role in the cover of "Lady Marmalade" with Lil Kim, Christina Aguilera and Mya. That track was at least somewhat tolerable.
Well, best of luck on the singles market Pink! I would suspect a Tommy Lee sighting to be not far behind. And then some well-needed penicillin.

Well first up in the world of news, Bono and the gang are back in the studio. Seems the band is working again with Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois on a undated, upcoming album. The article states that they are going to "try and break new sonic ground...". Don't get me wrong, U2 is dandy, but their sound hasn't been sonically different since "Achtung..."...sooooo...we'll see!
What's this? TVT is going bankrupt?! For those of you not savy to TVT, they are the guys that brought you early Nine Inch Nails, Lil' Jon, and the Ying Yang Twins. I, for one, know that I am saddened as this will obviously further delay Lil' Jon's upcoming (obviously multi-platinum potential) album Crunk Rock.
Oh, and for good measure, Amy Winehouse misses BRIT awards rehersal. Why? She found out her inmprisioned husband Blake was using heroin while in the slammer. Wait, that shocked her? Her abusive, drug-laden lover using hard drugs shocked her? Thats like a Clay Aiken fan being shocked that he's gay!

A startling report yesterday from our chief reporting rivals at the Associated Press claims that many "Oldies" radio stations are now beginning to spin songs from the 1980's along with their long-time tradition of hits from the 60's and 70's.
Also, despite my instance at continuing to quote them, "Oldies" is no longer what many of these stations are tagging their music by. Many of the stations are now flipping to "Classic Hits", in order to integrate the 80's playlist without alienating their potential new audience.
So now you could get a line-up of Creedence, Hendrix and...Tiffany? Styx, Grand Funk and...Wham!? Hmmm. Adam is torn on this one kids. On one hand, he misses his old 80's music station, which has died and will never return, so he welcomes these new 80's playing overloads, however, he know feels old. And is sad about it.
On the positive side, MORE GENESIS!!!!

You ever heard of Chris Vallillo? No? That's probably because he is the most commercially unappealing recording artist in recent memory. That it, until that whole "Girl-l-icious" record drops...
Vallillo, the unknown historian-musician released an album inspired entirely by the life of Abraham Lincoln released on February 12th...LINCOLN'S BIRTHDAY!
The acoustic snorefest dubbed the creative "Abraham Lincoln in Song" which promises to educate AS WELL as entertain, was born from a one-man show where Vallillo would play songs based on the life of Lincoln to period music. Ewww. Period music.
The 53 year-old Vallillo sums up the potentially-interested audiance quite nicely: "This should be of interest to anyone who loves Lincoln"...and no one else.
