Clay Aiken dropped by label; Rockworms Records preps for new acquisition

You know that the recession is bad when even the homosexuals are losing their jobs.

Last Friday it was confirmed that American Idol runner-up (he lost to Ruben Studdard…I KNOW!!!) Clay Aiken was being dropped by his label, RCA Records. It later began being realized that he had ACTUALLY been dropped much earlier than that…like, a few months earlier, but no one seemed to notice. Or care. And probably still don’t. HE’S IN SPAMALOT!

After rocking your effing face off with his high-pitched ode to voyeurism in 2003’s “Invisible” (was it really that long ago? It feels like I was blasting that out the windows of my soft-top yellow VW Rabbit just yesterday!), Aiken has mostly been a non-factor in the pop music world, making more news for his personal life rather than his “art”. Aiken adopted a child and announced his long-suspected gaydom in 2008.

Getting dropped from a record label is a seemingly regular occurrence for people who finish 2nd on Idol, with past casualties including Katharine McPhee, Justin Guarini, Blake Lewis and Bo Bice. That last one sounds like a disposable razor.

Some people did notice, some people cared and he is no longer in Spamalot. It ended its run on Broadway in January. Also, he wasn’t “dropped”. TPTB at RCA and his management couldn’t come to terms, which is actually being seen as a good thing by Clay fans.
I still don’t understand how people who don’t get their facts straight get paid for this type of work.

Get paid? Work? You must have this site confused with another :)

But thanks for clarification - Adam tends to look for funny before facts, so we appreciate the input. By the way - you can sign up and post a counter-argument to this, or any post! We’d welcome your thoughts!

Oh get real. Only one of your “facts” that I apperently was too neglectful to crosscheck whilst swimming through my giant piles of Rockworms money is accurate, that being the closing of Spamalot in January. But as a New Yorker, allow me to pass blame onto the innefficiant billboard replacement cartel. On every street corner I steal see his Rosie O’Donnel loving mug promoting that show. Your other points are either personal opinion (people noticed and cared, aka YOU alone cared) or just plain false (RCA says that they dropped HIM…and I believe them. Not you.)

    From People Magazine:
    Clay Leaves Record Label
“The rumors started when his likeness was removed from his record’s Web site and now Clay Aiken is setting the record straight: the former American Idol has parted ways with RCA Records, Aiken’s rep has confirmed exclusively to PEOPLE.

“We were unable to come to terms in a recent contract negotiation, and decided that it was best to move on,” the rep, Cindi Berger, said Friday.”
