While many may consider the Vincent Black Shadow to be another No Doubt
wannabe, this band offers more than that. Consisting of brothers Robbie
Kirkham (guitars), Chris Kirkham (bass), Tony Kirkham (drums), and
female vocalist Cassandra Ford, TVBS provides a fresh perspective on
music.
Their debut album "Fears in the Water" features the catchy single Metro
that allows you to remain guilt free for liking the song as you dance
along. This goes to say for the rest of the album as well.
With songs such as Bullet on the Tracks there is the sound
of the piano that makes you feel as though you should be wearing a
powdered wig dancing in a ballroom. Then there are other songs such
as Don’t Go Soft that takes you back to the 40’s with Ford’s melting voice. The House of Tasteful Men is another dance favorite with a swing flavor. Title track, Fear’s in the Water is one that is haunting. Dream is a matter-of-fact song of regret. Ask for Her Another Day is hinted wiht a 30’s sound due to the trumpet, emphasized bass, and Ford’s vocal timing.
The band also premiered two new songs while on the road with the Van’s
Warped Tour 2007. While a release date has not been scheduled yet, a
new album is in the works.
Is TVBS just another female fronted band? Maybe. Are they like all
the other bands? Not at all. A strong vocalist–who’s also enjoyable
to listen to–talented musicians, and a fresh approach to music, makes
this band one to be on the look out for.
