So, my girlfriend throws a group name my way, telling me the lead singer resembles one of the other writers here at Rockworms. For a man in Audio Recording school with a need to review, its all I needed
Leeland - Sound of Melodies. To intro this album properly, i won’t
beat around the bush. The band is of the Christian rock genre, and it
is apparent from track 1 to the end of the album. For those of you who
that does not appeal to, sorry, and for those of you who respect it for
standing for something, read on.
The album is impressive to say the least. Leeland Mooring is the
singer songwriter of the band, and at 18, has a suprisingly firm grasp
on music and weaving it together. They form themselves as my favorite
style of band, a five peice. The piano as the addition is critical in
bringing forth the emotion both spoken and felt within their songs.
While
i normally don’t care for albums that lead in with their single, the
title track "Sound of Melodie" is perfect to lead in an album with. It
builds well, has a full range of emotion and aptly shows what to expect
from the album. While some slow more than i care for, the heavily
string-laced "Tears of the Saints" is slow, but pulls you in the
anguish that is the message of the song. To pull you back out of that
mood, they follow later in the album with such up beat tunes as "Can’t
Stop", "Lift Your Eyes", and my personal favorite "Hey", simply because
i am a sucker for a little glimpse of honkeytonk-esque piano.
If
you are a fan of softer rock and roll, might admit to listening to a
Coldplay tune now and then, then check these guys out. While you may
not plug in and rock out, you will tune in and be absorbed.
