I will start out by saying; I am not all that into bands that MTV likes to play regularly. Slutted out to mainstream. Over played and jading the youth of the world with what they believe will define our generations music… yuck. I cant think of an Elvis, Hendrix or Zeppelinfrom the past ten fifteen or so years… mainly cause we have such a vanilla skew of what music should be provided by television… and we have such a melding pot of music these days… in the past fifteen years nothing has really been so stand out, well since Nirvana defined grunge… I guess. Maybe it takes another fifteen to understand what will be really great about these last fifteen. Any thoughts
Now I have to say I think MTV did something pretty cool. Somewhere in between battle of the sexes and the other mush, they set out to find their favorite college band. Somewhere in Brooklyn/New Jersey.. in some college cafeteria they found the Bamboo Shoots (www.myspace.com/bambooshoots & BambooShoots.com )….
Somehow they ended up on Conan last night and as I was shamelessly myspacing away I heard the tune in the background… It was killer. Hey Girl - the name of the song had a catchy and different sound… 
I just dug it… I hope that doesn’t reflect as me liking something that MTV likes… But they sounded a bit different. immediately looked them up, and Blammo a modest following of a couple thousand and some 12000 page views… So I shot off a little message saying congrats, and that I liked the music. I was super surprised this morning to receive a personal message back thanking me and telling me to keep listening from the lead singer Avir. It SO I was kind of cool. They sent out a bulletin telling everyone that they were playing a cafeteria serving Pasta last week… and they played Conan this week, scared as hell they were going to mess up. How cool is that? Since last night they have had some four thousand page views and a number of new friends and comments… so cool.
So in conclusion I would like to applaud MTV for doing something different, and cool, and exposing a nobody. I think they are sick and you should go check out their music asap. Take it easy
