Music Bloggers earn $10 in just 2 years. Spend it on Wordpress for Rockworms.com.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – If the great “dot com” bust of the late nineties did not scare you away from attempting to start up a business on the internet, take a lesson from three post-college music bloggers and their struggles to achieve success in the competitive world of internet blogging.

Music Blog revenue- rockworms.com 2007-2008“Our first year (2007), we earned eight dollars in total revenue,” laughed Craig Key, co-founder of Rockworms.com, an independently-financed music blog which allows the general public to register and submit music articles, album and concert reviews. “We were surprised by that success, but we were completely blown away with the downward spiral that hit when the economy tanked in 2008.”

Rockworms earned an estimated two dollars in the 2008 calendar year - a mere 25% of the previous year’s gross revenues. “It was a let down,” said Key “but luckily I had saved the eight dollars from last year, so we were sitting on a healthy reserve of ten dollars.”

But they didn’t spend their money on a Slurpee.

Rockworms three founding partners: Key, Adam Cozens, and Kyle Flaherty got together and decided what to do with the money. “We really wanted to spend it wisely knowing what tough economic times are ahead.” said Key.

Adam Cozens (Rockworms Editor in Chief) brought the idea of wordpress to the table. The three decided that the current site’s “funny url’s” which had more numbers and punctuation marks (index.php?=pID456-session=342?) in the URL than letters were not helping the overall site structure, and all three agreed that Wordpress would be a great investment to power the new site.

Key remarked on the investment: “Adam got a great deal on the software from this kid in China Town. $25, and he threw in the “Hello Dolly” plugin. A real steal of a find. We are thrilled about our site’s new look and at the current pace of financial growth, we should be able to repay Adam the other $15 in the next 3-5 years.”
